If you work with or parent children or youth, it’s critical to understand how to help prevent child sexual abuse and handle disclosures.
“It’s Not Just Jenna” is a 30-minute video about child sexual abuse followed by discussion. “What if…?” card sets are an interactive teaching tool designed to help adults evaluate a child’s understanding of challenging situations and help children learn to respond; participants will receive a free set of “What If…?” cards. In the final session, participants will learn how to receive a disclosure–and how to offer support to the individual and the investigation.
Objectives:
- Learn behavior signs in adults that might indicate they pose a risk to youth
- Understand how sexual abusers “groom” victims AND families
- Recognize behavior signs in youth that may indicate they are being or have been abused
- Know why it is difficult for victims to disclose
- Become confident in understanding how to handle disclosures
- Learn tools to positively navigate conversations involving real-life situations
