Special Guest Terry Liggins with The Hurdle Life Foundation

The life of Terry Liggins of Sioux Falls, SD, is the kind of compelling story that makes a great movie. Originally from North Omaha, Liggins succeeded despite growing up in a tough environment. Liggins is the founder of The Hurdle Life Foundation, a nonprofit based on the core belief that a trauma informed community is in the best interest of everyone. The foundation works with at-risk youth from 11-17 and vulnerable adults, providing trauma informed support through mentorship, inspiration and education-and helping them clear life’s hurdles, as Liggins has done.

A part of building self-healing communities is mentorship in the margins, positive role-modeling and a community-inclusive approach to the Administration of Justice. In this June session come and learn from SD ACES and Resilience Master-Trainer and Executive Director of Hurdle Life Coach Foundation Terry Liggins. Terry will share about their approach to mentorship to youth and adults they serve in Sioux Falls, their contribution to resilience building through their CHANGE Diversion Program and enlightened all guests on the relevance of Justice and Liberty during this honor worthy time of JuneTeenth.

Join us in learning, helping to raise awareness of preventative strategies that reduce harm and hurt to the vulnerable children and families of South Dakota.

Building Community Resilience

This series is designed for community members with all types of roles, responsibilities, and passions. Many of us are likely part of a larger institution. It may be an organization or agency—or it may be an entire system, such as education, criminal justice or social services.

As we talk about trauma and adversity in childhood, what does this mean for systems? How can we incorporate an understanding of trauma to create systems that truly work? You will be encouraged to think about how this information could be applied within your own “sphere of influence”—family, workplace, school, community, etc.

Building self-healing communities includes mentorship in the margins, positive role-modeling and a community-inclusive approach to the administration of justice.

Objectives:

  • Discover the framework and strategies for building resiliency for individuals and communities
  • Hear firsthand from youth on why peer-to-peer mentoring is important
  • Learn to help increase awareness of preventive strategies that reduce harm and hurt to vulnerable children and families in South Dakota
