For the past 10 years, Janelle Janssen and her family have made buying a Caring For The Kids (CFTK) Car Raffle ticket a family tradition. This year, that tradition paid off in a big way. Janelle won a brand-new Crystal White Pearl 2026 Subaru Outback Limited generously donated by Schulte Subaru of Sioux Falls.
Janelle was busy working on a few things the evening of the CFTK celebration when a message from Schulte Subaru General Manager Jason Hanson came through.
“I had a busy evening when all of a sudden, I just sat down and this message comes through,” said Janelle. “The message said I’d won the car and to please call me back!”
Her first thought? “Really?”
Once she got Jason on the phone and confirmed the news, Janelle immediately called her daughter.
“Oh my gosh. This is such a big deal for us,” she said with a smile. “It is very exciting!”
Janelle and her husband, Dean, along with their two children, have purchased a raffle ticket every year since they first heard about the raffle a decade ago.
“We kind of make it a family event now,” she said. “Ever since we found out about it 10 years ago, my husband, kids and I have always purchased a ticket. We always watch for the commercials every April.”
This year’s raffle included 750 available tickets at $100 each, with all proceeds benefiting CHS. While winning a new car was certainly exciting, Janelle said the cause behind the raffle is what matters most.
Now that she has the keys, Janelle already has her first road trip planned. She’ll take her new Subaru to her hometown of Graceville, MN, for an overnight visit later this month.
And if you’re wondering whether winning the car will keep her from buying a raffle ticket next year, the answer is a definite no. In fact, Janelle and her husband are already telling everyone they know about the raffle and encouraging others to get their tickets.
“We will continue to buy tickets regardless,” she said. “It’s a worthwhile cause and CHS is doing amazing things.”
