Melanie Coleman
Therapist, Rapid City
Certified Social Worker (CSW), Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and currently working toward CSW-PIP
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Melanie earned a BSW at New Mexico State University and her MSW at Western New Mexico University.
Melanie has a strong interest in supporting young clients with anxiety, depression, anger, PTSD and grief. Her professional background includes experience in hospital social work and elementary school social work before joining Children’s Home Society. She is a nationally recognized NTI Adoption-Competent Therapist. She specializes in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and play therapy for young children. She also offers animal-assisted therapy with the help of her therapy dog, Tamari, a black lab.
Outside of work, Melanie is an outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys hiking, camping, horseback riding, and exploring national parks—she has visited 18 so far!

Monica earned her degree in English from Chadron State College and her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked at Black Hills Children’s Home, where she found passion in helping others work through trauma, stress and life changes.
Today, Monica has more than 10 years of experience working with at-risk youth, adults and families at various organizations in the Black Hills area. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is an NTI Adoption Competent Therapist. These experiences have taught her that the family and individual are the experts.
In her free time, Monica enjoys going on adventures in the Black Hills.
