Shelter for Family Safety Awarded $100,000
Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety was awarded $100,000 on November 9 from Lyon County Riverboat Foundation (LCRF) to support victims of domestic violence who need emergency shelter. This gift is part of $1.5 million in grants awarded by LCRF to 28 organizations in northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota for 2024.
“The Shelter for Family Safety project was selected to receive a grant as it aligned well with one of the LCRF four areas of emphasis: Human and Social Needs,” said Ken Kerkvliet, LCRF executive director. “The Shelter will provide security, freedom from danger, nutrition, clothing, and sleep, which are all basic human needs, to victims of domestic violence.” Click here to read more and view event photos.

Technology Trainings Scheduled This Week
Installation of new conferencing technology in the Room With A View/Kitchen and the Board Room (SFCH Admin) is 99% complete–with only a few items such as camera mounts and hardware to exchange.
All functionality is available in both rooms and IT is ready to train CHS employees how to use the new technology. Two trainings are scheduled:
- Tuesday, November 14: 11am–12pm
- Friday, November 17: 1 pm–2 pm
IT staff will train all individuals who arrive at the scheduled times for this company-wide training. Individual trainings will not be scheduled.
Watch for upcoming announcements on the schedule for installation of equipment at Shelter for Family Safety.

KUDOS TO FOOD SERVICE TEAM!
The Department of Health completed an unannounced survey of the food service and dining area at Black Hills Children’s Home last week. It was no surprise they received a perfect “100” score again. Thanks to Koty and her amazing team for always being “survey ready.” Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Congratulations!

REMEMBER TO USE YOUR VTO!
Ross Leonhardt and Allison Sanderson found a fun way to use their VTO (Vounteer Time Off) to help others.
Leif Ericson Day Camp hosted an adults-only Big Vikes Camp Adventure. Campers were able to spend the day
learning new skills such as archery, high ropes course, horseback riding and goat yoga. Click here to view their
VTO photo.
