CFO Joe Herdina met with South Dakota Lt. Governor Larry Rhoden and other leaders at Children’s Day at the Capitol on January 11. The event provided an opportunity for lawmakers, government staff, advocates and the public to learn about work that is promoting the well-being of SD children and families.

CHS To Receive Additional $4M Funding

Mr. Smith may have gone to Washington...
But we are thrilled that Mr. Herdina went to Pierre!

We succeeded in our efforts to increase our Medicaid funding from the state of South Dakota for residential care to 100% of cost! For CHS this means nearly $4M additional dollars per year—nearly a 40% increase in our per diem. Achieving break-even will allow us to better serve our kiddos and continue to attract and retain talented team members.

We are grateful to Joe Herdina for his extraordinary efforts during this legislative session. You can read more about Joe’s work in Pierre and watch the video that was produced by the Marketing team for the Association of Residential Youth Care Providers by clicking here.

You’re invited to attend Joe's retirement party on Friday, March 31, from 3–4:30 pm at SFCH Building A. We’re going to give him quite a send-off!

CHS Celebrates 130 Years: 1893-2023

At 130 years old, CHS has the distinction of being South Dakota’s oldest nonprofit, human services agency.

To celebrate our 130th anniversary, Ami Kolb in Marketing designed a special logo for use during 2023!

The logo appears on our letterhead (both print version and digital versions), this year’s annual report, and is being used for event promotions.

Use this link to download the new digital letterhead.

You may also use the logo in your email signature. For instructions on how to download and insert the logo into Outlook, click this link.

ASK THE CEO:

You Asked. We Answer.

A new question to Ask The CEO was submitted on the GOOD WORKS portal:

When answering the phone at the shelter, it is confusing for callers to hear Children’s Home first. They think they have called the wrong place. Would you consider it for us to answer Shelter for Family Safety again?

Thanks so much for your question. It’s been my experience that the confusion and unfamiliarity of a new name goes away over time. That’s why it’s so important to continue with the Children’s Home brand.

The community is becoming familiar with Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety, so we need to continue to use our full name to educate everyone and remain consistent.

Please give me a call if you want to discuss further! And thank you so much for raising your concern.

–Michelle Lavallee, CEO

Personal Delivery?
Amazon Delivers. CHS Does Not.

Whenever possible, please ship all personal packages to your home address. In the event you need to use the CHS address to ship a personal delivery, please make arrangements to pick it up at the front desk of your campus building.
