Thanks to Staff for Successful Caring For The Kids Events

These staff volunteers were all smiles at the Caring For The Kids photo booth: Kate Feilmeier, Shelter for Family
Safety Outreach Advocate; Tifanie Petro, Child and Family Services Director, Rylee Lehmkuhl, Loving School Art
Teacher, and Ericka Bohle, Assistant Director of Schools

Hundreds of CHS supporters, volunteers, sponsors and employees attended the Caring For The Kids Celebration at the Sioux Falls Convention Center held Sunday, August 4.

“I would like to personally thank the many staff members who worked so hard to make this event possible,” said President and CEO Michelle Lavallee. “Caring For The Kids is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and this year’s event was just fabulous.”

The Caring For The Kids Celebration included a tribute to longtime supporter and board member emeritus Linda Mickelson Graham, a powerful speech by Shelter Crisis Advocate Linn Nelson, a live auction, silent auction and a drawing for the winner of the Charity Car Raffle.

Decorations at the event featured paper swans, designed to reflect our Join the Fold campaign and theme of Transformation.

New this year was the live auction of a framed work of art created by Loving School middle school students under the direction of Art Teacher Rylee Lehmkuhl. The painting featured a swan along with other creatures in nature. The high bid on the painting was $15,000, which helps the people we serve and provides a beautiful and meaningful piece of art for a supporter. Also new this year was the Paddle Raise, which raised a total of $45,000. Read more...

CHS Wins Big During Tourney Time

At the Rushmore Rotary Golf Tournament, Kara Flynn, Director of Development, stands with Jeffrey Meyer, Rotary Golf Tournament Chair; Heidi Bell Gease, Rushmore Rotary President; Jon Mammenga, CPO; Michelle Lavallee, President and CEO; and Mark Niemeyer, CAO.

Summer in South Dakota means it’s time to hit the links. And CHS was the winner at two recent Black Hills area golf tournaments!

The 35th Annual Rushmore Rotary Golf Tournament took place on July 29 at the Arrowhead Golf Course in Rapid City. Thanks to our generous sponsors and players, the benefit event raised $87,000 for Children's Home Child Advocacy Center. One of our largest donors, the Rotary Club of Rapid City Rushmore has raised over $2.3 million since 1989.

CHS was also the beneficiary of Jackson Dental’s fifth annual golf tournament at the Belle Fourche Country Club. The event raised $15,704; Director of Development Kara Flynn accepted the generous donation on behalf of CHS.
