Pet Name: Memphis

Pet Owner & CHS Position: Jeanne Weyen, Mental Health Therapist at the Shelter for Family Safety and husband Randy.

Short bio/adoption story: We got Memphis from a super nice family who breeds Boxers in SW Minnesota. He was eight weeks old when we brought him home. We send his breeder, Pete a picture of Memphis every year on Memphis’ birthday.

Age: Memphis is 8 – born June 30, 2015

Breed: Boxer – Brindle in color

Favorite food: Whatever we are eating. He prefers meat, cheese, gravies or jerky treats. He loves licking out the peanut butter jar or whatever might be in the baking bowl.

Favorite nap spot: Stretched out on the deck in the sun OR in Randy’s recliner.

Favorite toy: Currently his blue rubber squeaky chicken

Favorite activity: Memphis LOVES to play catch in the backyard, go for car rides and walks. Memphis looks forward to playing with his neighbor friend, Daisy (1 1/2 years old, a wild Bernadoodle who keeps him young. When he isn’t involved in activities, you will find Memphis assuming his role of Caretaker of the house. Memphis is at the ready to “welcome” anyone who walks by or drops off packages. He makes himself comfortable in the chair or on the couch as he watches ME TV each weekday and keeps the place safe.

Funniest habit: Memphis thinks he’s a lap dog. He weighs about 70 pounds, but if I lay on the couch, he needs to lay on top of me, literally.

Biggest pet peeve: When other dogs walk by the house.

Funniest memory with your pet: Memphis LOVES little kids. When he meets a little, he immediately drops, lays on his back and wiggles his tail, waiting to be petted. A funny, not funny moment—when Memphis was just a curious little guy—less than a year old, we were visiting friends in NE who had a koi pond. Memphis sniffed his way around the koi pond and fell in! He was so shocked! We had to whisk him out of the pond. He pretty much stayed away from the pond after that.
