After Hours Just for Fun Pet of the Month

Introducing a NEW feature in GOOD WORKS: Pet of the Month. We have a lot of pet owners at CHS—from kitty cats to horses to iguanas—and we would love to feature your favorite feline, fish or furry friend. Send your photos and info to news@chssd.org.

Petey

Owner: Angie (and Mark) Smith; Family Development Specialist/Therapist/Grant Officer

Petey was a rescue puppy. We said goodbye to one of our other boxers, Jacoby (13) in mid-January 2021. Jacoby was special and I was resistant in getting another dog (let alone a puppy) right away. I made a call to a reputable breeder in MN. She did not have pups but had Petey. He was born in October 2020. A woman purchased him from another breeder in Iowa to give to a friend. However, that friend could not care for Petey. He found his way to the breeder in MN. We picked up Petey in late-January. It didn’t take long for him to worm his way into my heart!

Age: 11 months

Breed: Boxer

Favorite food: Everything! Including things he shouldn’t: sticks, leaves, rocks, landscape materials and lots of unidentifiable objects. The only thing he won’t eat: his heartworm and flea/tick meds.

Favorite nap spot: When he naps, which is not very often, it is on the couch.

Favorite toy: He has several: “Piggy” (which is actually a green elephant that oinks like a pig), “pink squeaky” (big and little) and dyno-chicken. If you tell him to get one of them, he brings back the one you asked for.

Favorite activity: Rough play with his older brother, Luke (also a boxer rescue), going for walks, fetch and “keep away” from momma.

Naughtiest habit: Playing too rough with Luke.

Biggest pet peeve: Having to go in the crate.

Funniest memory with your pet: Every day with Petey brings joy and laughter. Favorite moments are watching his gentle demeanor with young kids.

What are some of your pet’s nicknames? Hurricane Pete and Captain Chaos.
