Pet Name: Sergeant “Paulie” Pugsley

Short bio/adoption story: Sergeant Paulie was adopted at 11 weeks old from a family in a small, rural town in SE South Dakota. My three children and I made the trek from Rapid City to meet him. The trip was planned, but Paulie was a surprise—the kids didn’t know we were adopting a puppy until the morning we picked him up! It was the hardest secret I've ever had to keep.

Age: 1 year

Breed: Pug

Favorite food: Scrambled eggs

Favorite nap spot: Mom’s lap

Favorite toy: Anything he can chew on! He also loves to play fetch with his ball.

Favorite activity: “Zoomies” in the back yard followed by a long nap (complete with loud pug snores!)

Naughtiest habit: Chewing up headphones. My husband wears earbuds to sleep, and when he doesn’t leave them in a safe place in the mornings, Paulie will seek them out and destroy them. He has chewed through at least a dozen pairs since he joined our family!

Biggest pet peeve: Paulie hates when his humans wear socks! If you wear your socks in the house, be prepared for Paulie to growl and nip at your toes!

Funniest memory with your pet: Paulie is a most particular pug. When he was five months old, I enrolled him in a basic puppy training class. When it came time to learn how to sit, Paulie absolutely refused, even for a handful of treats. As we were walking around, Paulie responded to the “sit” command when we were in a carpeted area. As it turns out, he just did not want to put his bottom down on the cold, hard, tiled floor. From then on, I had to bring a mat to Paulie's training sessions for him to practice sitting on, and his trainer dubbed him “The Luxury Dog.”
