Thanks for your Ask Us questions. We also encourage you to pose questions first to your supervisors, when possible. They have more understanding of specifics within your department.
Q: Will the Board be reviewing the comments on the engagement survey or just the scores? There is a lot of good information in the comments, and I feel like the Board should be able to review them.
A: As we have done since 2019, when we began regular employee satisfaction surveys which have now become employee engagement surveys, we have always shared the results with our Board. We share key themes, top scores, low scores and perhaps most importantly, the action plan to address issues. Culture Amp, the organization that administers our scores, advises us on best practices as part of their services. Because we promised confidentiality to our employees, they advised us not to share any of the comments as it may be possible to determine the identity of the respondent. We believe our employees would be hesitant to participate in future surveys if they knew their comments would be shared with others.
Rest assured, as the CEO, I read each and every comment and take every comment very seriously. The comments, even more than the scores, bring the issues to life and help to create action plans. The Board is keenly interested in our action plan which is an appropriate governance activity.
Last week our directors reviewed the results of the survey and following that meeting, each director will work with all of our employees on action plans for the departments.
I am happy to report the national average for nonprofits for employee engagement was 67% while CHS was 70%.
