Effective July 1: Meal Price Adjustment

To comply with federal regulations, effective July 1, 2023, CHS is adjusting the price of meals. The cost of a meal, whether it is a daily feature, or the salad bar (if available) will be $5.25. This rate applies for non-direct care staff and direct care staff not working or assisting with residential and day school students; or children, including teenagers 18 and younger, who are emergency shelter residents during the meal.

School Nutrition Program/CACFP funding compliance guidelines state that staff not working or assisting with qualified individuals receiving the meal, who make the choice to participate in the meal, are to be charged. Employees who are not allowed to leave campus during meals that qualify under convenience of the employer provisions will not be charged.

The meal price is based on the federal free reimbursement guidelines, value of USDA foods and supplemental reimbursements that facilitate School Nutrition Program compliance.

Restricted Funds Process Streamlined

Here’s great news from the Finance Department: CHS is streamlining and simplifying the process for using restricted funds. If you are filling out vouchers or expense records, you no longer need to indicate where the funding is coming from. Identifying the item will be sufficient.

This change allows you to focus on your overall budget and not have to worry about where the funding is coming from.

Within Finance, we are increasing budgeted expenses for clothing, personal needs, recreational activities and supplies, while pooling the restricted funds for each type of item. Finance will release the restricted funds as they are used.

If you need to purchase something outside of your budget, you can submit your request with the amount and rationale to your supervisor and Michelle Tarrell so it can go through the approval process.

Program directors will receive monthly financial statements, and can share the information as necessary.
