Dear Team Member,
CHS has been reviewing Residential Youth Counselor schedules and wages. In November of 2022 we surveyed and met with all full and part-time residential direct care staff regarding their schedules.
As a result, the schedule was amended to address several areas of dissatisfaction identified, such as reducing 14-hour shifts to 12 hours. Additional concerns included wake-up and bedtimes as times of high stress and increased risk.
To solve this problem, we are piloting two new positions:
- The first is a scheduled part-time role of two, eight-hour weekend shifts. The shifts will run 7am–3pm Saturday and Sunday and 3pm—11pm Saturday and Sunday. These positions are eligible for student loan payment or tuition reimbursement and other benefits. This position will roll out immediately.
- The second position is for a full-time weekender, consistently working Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am–10pm. Benefits include the differential for working the night shift and working 36 hours, but being paid for 40. This position will roll out after the scheduled part-time roles are filled, as determined by need.
For the pilot will include differential pay:
Weekend 7pm Friday–7am Monday = $2.00/hour
Again, these changes are pilots for the residential treatment program. If they are successful, other programs may be included in differentials.
Currently employed staff are eligible to apply for these new positions. If you are interested, please contact your supervisor, and you will be given more information on how to apply.
Our goal is to stagger start the new positions by March 29. You may see ads for them. Tell your friends—remember that CHS has a generous referral bonus program! Learn more about it here; you must submit the form to HR prior to the hiring decision to be eligible for the bonus.
Thank you for the important work you do! If you have questions, please contact Freddy Maseman, Lisa Johnson or Ondrea Patzlaff.
I would also like to thank the core team who worked so hard on this important project: Karl Jegeris, Mark Niemeyer, Shannon Clark, Jon Mammenga, Ondrea Patzlaff, Freddy Maseman, Lisa Johnson, Mike Groher, Janet Andersen and Board Member Deanna Larson.
Sincerely,
Michelle Lavallee, CEO
