New Cyber Scam Alert
Cybercriminals are getting more creative, and now they are using QR codes to scam people. The latest cyber scam, known as quishing, is on the rise—and recently, our IT team detected and blocked an attempted attack.
The IT department urges everyone to stay alert when receiving emails or texts containing links or QR codes. If you’re unsure whether a message is legitimate, verify the sender before clicking or scanning. You can also use the “Report Phishing” button in Outlook to flag suspicious messages.
Quishing doesn’t just happen in emails and texts. Scammers are getting clever and putting fake QR codes in public places, including menus, flyers, parking meters, and public transportation, hoping people will scan without thinking. The IT team encourages you to be extra vigilant and use caution before scanning any QR codes.
Learn more about quishing in the links below. If you have questions about protecting yourself or CHS from cybersecurity threats, please reach out to the IT department.
