Get Ready for United Way!
Be sure to save the dates (October 18–25) for a fun week of United Way Campaign activities. This year’s theme is Halloween/Fall Festivities, and a video will be shown at our kick-off party on Monday, October 18. Here’s a sneak preview of a few things to begin planning for now:
Raffle Basket Donations
Raffle baskets are a fun way to participate in donating to United Way. Have fun creating a basket that will be “bought” with raffle tickets. You, your family/friends, classroom units or teams of co-workers can join forces to donate items.
Trunk or Treat!
Plans are also under way for a mini indoor “trunk or treat” to get the kids involved! Get together with your department or coworkers to brainstorm station ideas! Click here if you need some inspiration for your trunk!
For those of you who are new to United Way, here are a few facts about how it helps CHS and other nonprofit agencies:
Sioux Empire United Way is a fundraising organization that runs a campaign each year to help serve the population of children, vulnerable adults, and people in crisis in the surrounding area, including Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha and Turner counties.
United Way has served the community for 94 years! Ninety cents of every dollar made goes directly into 75 local programs and services (including Bright Start and Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety!)
Watch for the calendar of events to be posted in early October for the week of festivities.

Joint Committee on Appropriations to Visit SFCH
The Joint Committee on Appropriations will tour Sioux Falls Children’s Home on Tuesday, September 19. Members of this South Dakota legislative committee are elected officials who determine annual funding for CHS. The purpose of the tour is to learn firsthand about the work being done at SFCH residential treatment and education. Click here to read more about this important visit to our SFCH campus.

ASK THE CEO
You Asked. We Answer.
A new question was submitted last week to Ask the CEO.
It is really frustrating that the new Madsen Down playground does not have a swing set. Multiple Madsen staff have mentioned and brought up how many of our children have sensory needs and disorders. Swing sets are a great resource for the kids. Is there a way that direct care staff can have a say in what would work best for our kids?
Look for this new feature: “What’s Cookin’ in Construction” in GOOD WORKS Weekly. We’ll bring you highlights and updates on a regular basis as the new SFCH dining hall construction gets under way.
With the dining hall demolition coming soon, Admin fire evacuation procedure has been changed. In the event of a fire or fire drill, Admin will now evacuate to the VanDemark Upstairs coat room. This is the very front door of the VanDemark building which faces East (towards the parking lot). This policy went into effect on September 12.
