Stories of Hope: She Believed She Could, So She Did

This Heartfelt Moment is brought to us by SFCH Housekeeper Andreea Slemmons. Andreea has only been with CHS for five months, but she firmly believes that events in her past—being adopted and in an abusive relationship—have led her to CHS. With the help of good friends, Andreea was able to find strength in herself and now believes she can do anything she sets her mind too and is excited to see where the future will take her. This is Andreea’s story.

Help Us Make a Splash For a Cause

Is it March or May? With all of the gorgeous weather we’ve been having, I can’t tell! Mother Nature is practically begging us to break out our flipflops. And I can’t think of a better way to cool down from this “tropical weather” than by taking a plunge—the Polar Plunge!

That’s right folks, just like Black Hills, SFCH and Shelter will be creating a team for the Sioux Falls Polar Plunge supporting the Special Olympics of South Dakota. This year’s Sioux Falls plunge is taking place on April 12 at Combined Pool and Spa—across the street from Scheels.

If you think you’re brave enough to take the plunge, then come join our team! We would love to have representation from every department!

Reminder: Employee Check-ins

It’s time for our second round of trimester check-ins! Supervisors have until this Thursday, March 20 to meet with their staff and complete their reviews in Paylocity. This round will be for full-time staff only. If you have any questions, speak to your supervisor or HR.

Seasoned Staff

Name: Brandi Tonkel
Position: Lead Forensic Interviewer
Years at CHS: 15 years

Did you hear the news? This month’s Seasoned Staff is Lead Forensic Interviewer Brandi Tonkel! She’s been with CHS for 15 years!

Brandi learned very early the importance of hard work. She said her grandpa would tell her, “Do the hard work first because the
impossible takes a little longer.” When she’s not working hard you might find her spending time with family, traveling or creating beautiful flower bouquets.

CHS SCRAPBOOK

Assistant Program Supervisors, Assistant Program Directors and the Program Director of Shelter for Family Safety met earlier this month to complete their Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) caregiver training. TBRI Caregiver Training is designed to help caregivers recognize and address the whole-body needs of the clients in their care.

Occupational Therapist Jennifer CrispGriebel’s 15-year-old son Brogan recently attended a soccer camp at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He impressed the coaching staff with his goal-keeping abilities, and they offered him a position on their soccer team. He will start the next step in achieving his dream to play soccer at the highest level that he can this August. Congratulations, Griebel family and go Ascenders!
