Pet Owner and CHS Position: Maddie Cheever, Crisis Advocate, Shelter for Family Safety

Hi, my name is Posey June, but you can call me Posey for short. I’ve recently been living my best feline life since I found my fur-ever home with Maddie—a Crisis Advocate at Shelter. I may have arrived at the rescue with a frost-bitten ear and a belly full of kittens, but now I spend my days taking long naps in the sun, hiding in boxes and climbing on top of the cabinets—I live a grand life!

I’m pretty shy with most people, but as soon as I saw Maddie, I knew she was the right human for me. She gives great cuddles and feeds me steak—I chose correctly. Keep reading to learn more about me!

Short bio/adoption story: I had wanted to add another pet to my family for a while. Around Christmas, I found Sioux Empire TNR at a meet and greet, and they let me and my dog, Daisy, test how she would do with a cat since she hasn't really been around them—Daisy did great! A few months later, I came across Posey's pictures on their website and fell in love. We don't know much about Posey’s past, except that a couple brought her to the rescue in February of 2024. She had suffered frostbite and had to have the tip of her ear amputated. Posey was very pregnant when she arrived, and she had her babies in the rescue and was the best mom ever! When I met her, she had been there for about a year. As soon as I walked in, she came right up to me and started purring. Her foster mom told me that she was very shy and usually didn’t come up to people. I knew then that she was the one, and she’s been living the life she deserves ever since.

Favorite Food: She loves wet food and steak.

Favorite Nap Spot: She loves boxes or anything she can hide in, snoozing on top of her cat tree, or cuddling next to me on a blanket. Posey also loves sleeping in the sun.

Favorite Toy: Wand toys or anything she can chase.

Favorite Activity: Glaring at Daisy and me from the top of my cabinets—or at anyone who walks by—but she also loves to cuddle!

Naughtiest Habit: Eating Daisy’s food or chewing on my charging cords.

Biggest Pet Peeve: Posey dislikes when Daisy gets in her bubble, nail trims, the shower and when I take pictures of her while she eats.

Funniest Memory of Posey: One day, after taking Daisy to visit my parents, I came home and couldn’t find Posey anywhere. She normally greets me at the door, but not this time. I searched my entire apartment, only to find her curled up inside a storage cube on top of the fridge—right in the middle of Daisy’s grooming supplies!
