Featured Pet: Lily and Cypress

Hi! I’m Cypress and this cool horse above me is my mom, Lily. Guess what? I was born on June 4, so I'm almost three weeks old! 

We live out in the country at this cool place called Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue, run by our friend and your Webmaster, Tiffany Ring.

What’s my favorite activity? Well, I'm a foal, so I love eating, taking long naps in the grass and exploring new pastures. Tiffany may call it mischief, but I say it’s an adventure! Anyway, I'm off to play with my favorite toy—Mom's tail.

Pet Name:  Cypress (His mom’s name is Lily.)

Pet Owner & CHS Position: They are rescue horses at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue, run by CHS Webmaster Tiffany Ring.

Short bio/adoption story:  Lily came to us from the January horse auction. She was beat up, bleeding and still nursing two of her previous babies. We were able to help her and last year's baby but were outbid on the other. Lily had a cancerous growth on her eyelid—which we removed. After she arrived at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue, we found out that she was pregnant, and on June 4, Cypress was born!

Age: Cy is now 3 weeks old, and his mama, Lily, is about 11 years old.

Breed: Both are paint horses.

Favorite food: Cy loves to nurse, but he is starting to experiment with his mama’s Mare & Foal feed and nibble on grass.

Favorite nap spot: ANYWHERE! Baby horses sleep a lot, so anywhere Cy can sleep, he will. He loves finding soft areas—thick bedding or grass—and being close to his mama and adopted grandma—38-year-old Shanno.

Favorite toy: His favorite toy is probably his mama’s tail. He’s currently experimenting with boundaries.

Favorite activity: He does all the normal foal things, like sleeping, eating and running around! Cy loves having the area between his ears rubbed. He is also very curious, so exploring is probably his favorite thing to do.

Naughtiest habit:  Cy’s curiosity gets him into mischief! He has gotten himself into trouble a few times—from getting separated from mom and having to figure out how to get back to her, to scraping his jaw badly enough that he had to make a vet trip and get his first x-ray. The X-ray came back fine, with no broken jaw!

Biggest pet peeve:  None! How can you have any pet peeves with a newborn horse as cute as him?   

What are some of your pet’s nicknames? Nicknames for Lily: Lillian, Lilith and Mama. Nicknames for Cypress: Baby Cy, Cy Guy, Cy Man and Cy Borg.
