Doug and Peggy Crane have decided it’s time to retire (for Doug, it’s his second retirement!). Doug was featured in a CHS video about the work he has enjoyed for the past seven “wonderful years” at CHS.

Doug wrote this poignant letter to say goodbye to the staff and kids at SFCH. Read his retirement letter and watch the video by clicking the link below:

Retirement:

It is with great regret that I must inform you of my pending retirement plans. After having been here for seven “wonderful” years, Peggy and I have decided it is time to retire.

We have sold our home and will be moving to Pierre to be closer to our children and grandkids. We plan to travel, fish, camping, reading, spending time with family and of course continue my woodworking. ,

These last seven years have been the most rewarding of my life. I will miss the kiddos, the great staff and my coworkers in the dining hall. I have been looking forward to the new dining hall, and I am sorry that I will not be here to see it happen. I know the dining hall staff will carry on in their fantastic way and keep the kiddos and staff fed and happy!

As of now unless something should change my last day will be September 30, 2023. I had to put the year in there, or Karen would try to make me stay till next year!

I will be back to visit and see the new hall. I will miss this wonderful place and all the people here. You have touched my heart and soul to make me a better person in a better life.
