Q: What is the surplus policy when CHS gets rid of cars? Does everyone in the agency have a chance to purchase surplus items?
A: Thank you for the opportunity to clarify how excess inventory or assets are disposed of at CHS, which can sometimes lead to a chance for all employees to purchase. We have a financial policy which states that our leader of finance will send an All-Staff email listing the items, current state of repair and location. Employees will have an opportunity to submit a sealed bid to our leader of finance and the highest bidder may purchase the item.
It has recently come to our attention that the established policy has been inconsistently administered. Rest assured, now that these inconsistencies are known, this policy will be strictly enforced, and we are starting with a good example for complete transparency.
We have replaced our two Club Car Carryalls on the Sioux Falls campus with more useful side-by-sides. In the coming weeks, the Finance department will be sending out an email with photos and descriptions of the golf carts. They will also include information on how you can submit a sealed bid.
