Thanks for your Ask Us questions. We also encourage you to pose questions first to your supervisors, when possible. They have more understanding of specifics within your department.
Q: Is it possible to go back to having the employee appreciation event a few times? Before the event was held 3 separate times in a day: morning, early afternoon, and early evening. I feel like this is a better option so that everyone can have a chance to attend and be appreciated. Not just those who happen to have the day off or who are lucky enough to find someone to trade the shift with them.
A: Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding the employee appreciation event. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
We completely understand your perspective about having multiple event times to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate. This is something we will take into consideration as we plan future events. Our goal is to make sure every team member feels valued and appreciated, and we will work to find a solution that accommodates as many people as possible.

Q: We have a significant number of Native American children come through our Youth Care program. Is there a grant we can apply for to provide funds for cultural activities or crafts? Are there connections we can work on building with local Native community members to be able to provide some additional cultural experiences? We had some girls interested in making ribbon skirts, but staff were told that buying supplies would have to come from our already small activity/outing budget. Connections with their culture can be very healing for both our youth and adults and I would love to see us be able to foster that connection.
A: Thank you for your commitment to our children’s culture and incorporating it into their healing. Staff are encouraged to share their requests for potential grants with their supervisor or directly contact Angie Smith. If you bring an idea forward, we will work on identifying potential funding opportunities. It is helpful to know the estimated cost of the request and a timeline. While there are no guarantees, we don’t know until we ask!
Additionally, directors submit budget requests each year. If the current recreational activity budget is insufficient to meet the needs of the program, please communicate that need so it can be considered in our upcoming budget year.
In terms of building connections with local Native community members, this is something we strongly encourage. If you have suggestions for partnerships or cultural experiences that would benefit our youth, please share those ideas with leadership. Establishing relationships with Native artists, elders and cultural educators could provide meaningful opportunities for our children.
Let’s work together to find ways to support and sustain these important cultural experiences!
