Thanks for your Ask Us questions. We also encourage you to pose questions first to your supervisors, when possible. They have more understanding of specifics within your department.

We received multiple questions after the All Hands Meeting. We thank you for your questions and patients as we work on getting you answers.

This week’s question is regarding the employee engagement surveys.

Q: In All Hands we were told there is another employee survey coming in January. After the last survey, employees were not allowed to see the comments made by staff. We hear a lot about transparency, but this doesn't seem transparent. It seems like things are being hidden. Why should staff take the upcoming survey if we can't see the comments?

A: Thank you for your participation in the last Employee Engagement survey. We understand that some of you may have concerns about why verbatim comments are not shared directly, and we appreciate the opportunity to explain our approach.

Our primary goal is to ensure that the survey provides a safe, confidential space for everyone to share their honest feedback. Below are the key reasons for how we handle comments:

Protecting Anonymity: Verbatim comments can sometimes contain details that may inadvertently reveal an individual’s identity. By keeping these comments private, we can safeguard your anonymity and ensure everyone feels comfortable providing candid feedback.

Addressing Specificity: Comments occasionally mention specific individuals or departments. While it’s important to understand these perspectives, sharing such comments broadly could unintentionally single out individuals or groups in a negative manner. Protecting the dignity and privacy of those mentioned is a priority. Sharing individual comments publicly could also create unnecessary distractions or division, detracting from the broader goal of making meaningful, strategic improvements. By handling these comments privately, we focus on fostering a constructive environment that supports organizational health and effectiveness while respecting everyone involved.

Encouraging Open Participation: To maintain the integrity of the survey process and foster an environment where everyone feels safe to share openly, access to verbatim comments is intentionally limited to a small group tasked with analyzing them constructively.

Your participation in the engagement survey is crucial, and your detailed comments provide valuable context that helps us understand the "why" behind your feedback to develop meaningful solutions. Rest assured, your privacy is protected throughout the process, so you can share openly and confidently.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your trust and engagement
