Tell us about your family, including pets.
In February 2025, my husband Bubba and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary. We will be going to Mexico with many of our friends to celebrate. It’s one of our favorite places.
We owned our restaurant—the Sugar Shack—for 12 years. In 2017, we decided to sell it so we could pursue other passions. We love to travel, and we were unable to do that when owning the restaurant because of responsibilities.
We have two fur babies named Charlee and Abby. Charlee is a rescue from the Ogalala Pet Project. He is a mini–Australian shepard mix and he is 12 years old. He’s the boss. Abby is a Goldador—half labrador retriever and half English golden retriever—and she is six. She is the princess. Together they are two peas in a pod!
Where did you grow up? I grew up in many different places, but when I was 10 my mom and I moved to Rapid City. She knew Rapid City was where she wanted to raise me.
What are some of your favorites:
-Movies? Anything with Drew Barrymore or Adam Sandler. I also love “Hunger Games,” “Grease” and the John Wick series.
-TV shows? My favorite shows include, “Brilliant Minds,” “Yellowstone” and “Big-Bang Theory.”
-Books? I read plenty at work.
-Musicians? I love all kinds of music genres.
-Sports or teams? I cheer for the Miami Dolphins even though they are good at letting me down. My grandmother lived in Pembroke Pines, FL. You could see the stadium from her home.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include traveling, riding our side-by-side, boating on the great lake of Pactola, spending time with friends and family and finding new places to explore.
What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I do my best work in disarray.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Be ready to embrace change and adjust to new situations.
Please provide two truths and a lie about yourself.
- I want to learn how to crochet.
- I hate dancing.
- I have a fear of rubber bands.
What are some of the changes you have seen over your years with CHS?
I have seen many changes at CHS. The bigger changes include becoming trauma-informed, the development of an outpatient mental health clinic for the surrounding communities, the purchase of the new Rapid City campus, the closing of the temporary shelter that was once located at the Jolly Lane location and the approval to hire another full-time nurse besides myself!
Can you share a special memory or two from your time with CHS?
Watching Sue Andrews enjoy retirement!
Do you have any advice for newly-hired employees?
Demonstrate your willingness to learn, maintain a positive approach and ask questions to avoid miscommunication.
Is there anything else you’d like to say about your time at CHS?
I have very much enjoyed my career with the Children’s Home Society. I like the cross training I am beginning to do with the outpatient clinic. It changes things up a bit!
If you guessed number two, you are correct. Sabrina loves to dance!
