Name: Brian Catron
Years at CHS: 18 years
Current Position: Behavior Specialist, Loving School

Tell us about your family, including pets.

I met my wife Katrina at CHS. She used to work overnights and also at Van Demark Up.
Tyson – 10 years old
Tucker – 7 years old
Mia – 2 years old
Bella (dog) – 12, Earned her angel wings in April of this year

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Mitchell and graduated from SDSU in Brookings. Go Jacks!

What are some of your favorites:

-Movies? “The Fast and Furious” series, anything with The Rock, All the Marvel movies

-TV shows? “The Office,” “Seinfeld,” “The Challenge”

-Books? I’m not a big reader, but I did enjoy the Harry Potter collection. And the Bible. Not in that order.

-Musicians? You’ll find a large variety of music in my CD collection. Yes, I’m that old and still use CDs to jam out in my car.

-Sports or teams? Green Bay Packers and anyone on my fantasy football team

What are your hobbies?

Hobby would be an understatement for my love of Disc Golf.

What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?

At one point in my life, I actually enjoyed watching “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Don’t judge. That part of my life is waaaaaaaaaay behind me.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t sweat the small things. Life’s too short for that.

What are some of the changes you have seen over your years with CHS?

The obvious answer is all the remodeling and improving of almost every building on campus over the last 18 years. One thing that sticks out to me is how many different people have worked here and that there’s always someone willing to step up and take their place when life happens or when people move on to new adventures.

Can you share a special memory or two from your time with CHS?

A few of us staff used to take a group of kids from CHS camping in the Black Hills for 3-4 days every year. We climbed Harney Peak, went to see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, drove through Bear Country USA where one kid actually opened up the van door next to the enclosed bobcat exhibit because he “wanted to see it better,” went to Reptile Gardens and The Cosmos, did some fishing, camped in tents, and just made so many memories that will last a lifetime for both staff and kids.

Do you have any advice for newly-hired employees?

Learn from your mistakes. Nobody’s perfect. What didn’t work last time try something different the next time.

Is there anything else you’d like to say about your time at CHS?

CHS has been a big part of my life for almost half of my life. It’s not work when you enjoy what you’re doing. I have met some lifelong friends while here at CHS. It’s my relationships with people that I’ve met along the way that make working here so much easier.
