Congratulations to CHS Community Based Services and Prevention and Advocacy programs in the Black Hills for their part in the large-scale collaboration among like-minded organizations to create the Rapid City Family Project!
Fully funded through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the goal of the Rapid City Family Project is to work closely with community members to create a program that reduces adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including child abuse, exposure to domestic violence, exposure to community violence and other upsetting or traumatic experiences.
The project is community-led, which means members of the Rapid City area community will play an active role in developing the program and making decisions about how we evaluate the program.
The project is a collaboration among the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Interpersonal Violence Research Laboratory and several agencies and organizations in Rapid City, including Youth & Family Services, which will take the lead in implementing the programming, as well as Children’s Home Society, Working Against Violence Inc., and many others.
The project will be overseen by the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Our hope is that program development and evaluation results will advance dual generation violence prevention approaches and address gaps in approaches for vulnerable populations.
