30 years
Current position: Senior Writer / “Mother Christmas”
for SFCH

Tell us about your family.
Married to Dennis. He is the Ag-Ed teacher at Luverne High School.
Four cats: Callie, Kia, Tater, and Sarge.

If you could do anything you want on a day off, what would you do?
Turn on the fireplace in our family room and binge-watch movies with a friend, a bowl of M&Ms, and a refreshing beverage.

What are your 3 favorite movies?
The Color Purple
Amadeus
Tombstone
(I am crazy about the TV series “Yellowstone”)

What is your favorite sports team?
The Green Bay Packers.

What is your favorite treat?
Homemade lefse with real butter.

What are some of the biggest changes you have seen over your years with CHS?
The development of all our sites and the growth of our endowment. When I started at CHS in 1989, we didn’t even have computers. The only buildings at SFCH (then called “Crossroads”) were the early versions of Van Demark House and the school (no gym), and only the upper level of the original Admin was finished. At BHCH, there was Tully House and a metal building for a school. The endowment has grown from $2-3 million to over $100 million.

Do you have a memory or two that stand out from your time with CHS?
The first Christmas I was here, I remember a few co-workers purchasing Christmas gifts for our kids out of their own pockets. (And their own pockets didn’t have that much in them to begin with.) But that act demonstrated the devotion to mission that I’ve seen on countless occasions by so many people. My memories of this place will be the faces and hearts of the extraordinary collective of people I’ve worked with and met over the years. There have been so many good times working and playing together doing some pretty crazy things over the years. Not sure I should provide details here... 😊

What has been your reason/motivation to stay at CHS?
To be part of the mission and legacy that is Children’s Home. And I have gotten to meet and work with people who have become some of my closest friends.

If you hadn’t chosen this as a career, what would have been your second choice?
Interior design.

Do you have any advice for newly-hired employees?
There is so much experience and collective wisdom at CHS. Bring your special gift(s) to the table, but listen and learn. Then weave all of that together to get the best of both.
