Good Works Weekly
Today, we honor the remarkable men and women who served our great nation during times of war and peace. Veterans Day occurs every year on November 11 to honor the “eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month” of 1918, when World War I ended. In 1938, Veterans Day–then called Armistice Day–became a national holiday. It wasn’t until 1954 that President Dwight E. Eisenhower officially changed the name to Veterans Day.
Unlike Memorial Day, when we honor those who gave their lives defending our country, Veterans Day is a time to give thanks to all U.S. veterans who served. Let’s take a moment now to honor our CHS servicemen and servicewomen.
Mark your calendars because you are not going to want to miss the upcoming All Hands quarterly meeting! There are three meeting times on November 19 and 20. Choose a meeting that works best for you. A variety of topics will be discussed, including Rapid City Campus updates, information on employee engagement surveys and Employee Appreciation Day.
Time is scheduled for Q&A at the end of the meeting. We encourage everyone to submit questions before the meeting. Black metal lunch boxes can be found on all Administrative Assistants’ desks at all campuses. Click here for more information.
Happy National Adoption month! Every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent family, and no child should ever leave the system without one. Those are just a few core beliefs of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) program–founded by Dave Thomas, the owner of Wendy’s restaurants.
WWK partners with agencies like CHS in every U.S. state and in Canada. WWK Adoption Specialist Tina Graber has been with CHS for
eight and a half years. During her time here she has completed 25 adoptions. Last year, Tina met Ezmia, a little girl with serious medical issues–who doctors predicted wouldn’t make it past the age of two. Here is Ezmia’s story.
We welcomed 15 new employees to the CHS family at New Employee Orientation on Monday, November 4. Get to know your new co-workers in New Kids on the Block. Be sure to help them learn the ropes!
Facilities staff from SFCH and Shelter gathered in the Daugaard Dining Hall last week for an appreciation lunch. Both teams
worked together to keep the kiddos fed during the construction of the dining hall. Click here to read their story.
Congratulations to Katelynn Beldin on her promotion to Clinical Unit Supervisor on Van Demark Up at the SFCH campus. Great job, Katelynn!
We also have a new Clinical Unit Supervisor on the west side of the state. Rachel Walton will be starting her new role in November. Congratulations, Rachel!
Rapid City intern Summer Johnson accepted a position as a full-time Residential Therapist. She will be transitioning into her new role as she continues her last semester of school. Way to go, Summer!
