You’ve Got Mail!
The 2024 CHS Annual Report has been printed and all staff will receive a copy in their mailboxes or from their supervisors this week. If you prefer to read online, click this handy link.
This year’s theme is Transformation. It refers to CHS as an organization, as we make changes in our facilities, programs and care model. It speaks to how we help transform the lives of children and families. And includes the impact of CHS on staff, volunteers, donors, board members and community partners.
On the cover of the Annual Report, the idea of transformation is visualized as an origami swan. It begins as a square piece of paper and becomes a beautiful swan that can even fly. The swan is our symbol of hope, which takes shape and rises through our care.
Appropriately, you’ll find origami paper tucked into the Annual Report, along with an invitation to fold swans. Our goal is to transform more than 2,500 paper swans into a community art project in the new Sioux Falls dining hall! You’re invited to Join the Fold—and you will hear more about this very soon.

Monsters Among Us
Children at BHCH’s Owen School finished a monstrous project recently!
Gillian Spiva, Owen School Art Teacher, shared that each student made a monster habitat, a monster and a monster ID card. These monsters could be alien or creature-like. The ID cards help humans understand what the monsters do or where they come from.
“We started with pinch pots out of air-dry clay,” Gillian wrote. “The students used scoring and slipping to attach clay eyes, arms, tongues and tails.”
When the monsters were complete, Gillian set up a gallery in the art room and gave tickets to students so they could view the show.
“They did an amazing job!” she wrote. “They loved making their own monsters as well as reading about everyone else’s.”

The End.
For more than two decades, author Tom Roberts has shared his gift of writing and storytelling. Tom, who currently serves as External Relations Coordinator, is retiring on May 31, after 15 years of working for Children’s Home Foundation.
Tom will host one final book signing on Saturday, April 27, from noon–2:00 p.m., at Crossroads Book & Music, 1220 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls.
Tom has written eight Christmas books with stories that served as gentle reminders of what Christmas is all about, and helped to increase awareness of the CHS mission.
Congratulations Tom—and enjoy this “last chapter” of your life!
