Does it seem like you keep filling out the same employee survey every few months?
Actually, that’s exactly what you’re doing. Once each quarter—or four times a year if you’re not into fractions—CHS asks employees the same 16 questions. The results of 2020’s fourth quarter survey were shared in the most recent All Hands on Deck meeting in December.
The 2021 first quarter survey shows increases on key metrics. “We’re making huge strides as an organization,” says Mark Niemeyer, Chief People Officer. “We are making progress in building a culture of positivity, inclusivity and transparency.”
Highlights of the most recent survey include greater employee participation. In 2019, 58% of employees filled out the survey. That number rose to 65% in 2020 and then to 70% in 2021.
“The most important question on the survey is whether an employee would recommend CHS as a great place to work,” says Mark. “It’s called the Employee Net Promoter Score, and it increased from 3.71 in 2019 to 3.88 in 2020. It jumped again in 2021 to 4.18, which is tremendous.”
Scores improved on the most recent survey on 14 of the 16 questions. “People’s concerns are being heard and changes are being made,” Mark says.
The purpose of the survey is to track metrics in specific areas to gauge employee morale, job satisfaction and commitment. Part of becoming the leading trauma informed provider in the region, which is CHS’s vision, is being known as the best place to work within our industry.
“We base big decisions in part on the results of these surveys,” says Mark. “I’d like to encourage all employees to fill the surveys out each quarter, and to be completely honest. The more information we have, the better we can respond.”
The second quarter 2021 survey will begin in April.
