April 1: April Fool's Day, an annual day to play practical jokes on those you care about!

April 1: First Day of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is time of fasting from dawn until the sun sets, with the intent to educate each individual in spirituality, humility and patience, in addition to focusing more on God and practicing selflessness.

April 2: World Autism Day. This year marks the 15th annual World Autism Day! This day not only recognizes but also spreads awareness of the rights of people with autism.

April 8: Day of Silence, started in 1996, on the second Friday in April to bring attention to what many LGBTQ+ youth experience on a daily basis. Its initial focus was on the school system, but it later expanded into workplaces, universities and sporting events. Each year millions stay silent for the day, representing the silencing of LGBTQ+ students.

April 10: Palm Sunday, when Christians celebrate Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. This took place the week before Jesus’ death and resurrection. Palm Sunday always falls one week before Easter Sunday.

April 12: The American Civil War started on this day in 1861.

April 13: The birthday of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the U.S.

April 14: Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion.

April 14: National Pan American Day is a holiday observed by several countries in North and South America. It commemorates the First International Conference of American States which concluded on April 14, 1890, creating the International Union of American Republics, the forerunner to the Organization of American States.

April 15: Good Friday, a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death.

April 15: Ta’anit Bechorot (Fast of the first-born) is a unique fast day in Judaism that usually falls on the day before Passover. Unlike any other Jewish fast days, only the first-born child is required to fast.

April 15: Passover, a major Jewish holiday that commemorates the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt and the “passing over” of the forces of destruction, or the sparing of the first-born of the Israelites.

April 16: Emancipation Day marks the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia. Over 3,000 enslaved people were freed eight months before the Emancipation Proclamation liberated slaves in the South. The District was also the only part of the U.S. that compensated slave owners for freeing those they had enslaved.

April 17: Easter, a Christian and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion.

April 18: Patriots’ Day, an annual event to remember the battles of Lexington, Concord and Menotomy, some of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.

April 20: Chinese Language Day was created in 2010 to celebrate Chinese as one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

April 21: San Jacinto Day is a day of state pride for Texas to remember Battle of San Jacinto between the Texan army and Mexican forces on this date in 1836. It was a turning point for Texas’ independence from Mexico.

April 21: The Spanish American War started on this day in 1898.

April 22: Earth Day is celebrated by over a billion people to protect the earth from pollution and deforestation.

April 22: Orthodox Good Friday is observed by Orthodox Christian denominations. It is observed with fasting and church services.

April 23: The last day of Passover.

April 24: Orthodox Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon after Passover.

April 27: Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, remembers the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

April 27: Administrative Professionals Day recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals.

April 29: Arbor Day is a day to celebrate nature and encourage the planting of trees in communities.

April 30: Last day of Ramadan.
