Have you been wondering if The Orion Classic will happen this year? We’ve got an update for you…
An Update…
So many things about our lives have changed this year because of COVID-19. To honor the efforts being made to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, and for the safety of our many sponsors, friends, CHS staff, and volunteers who support this event, the ORION CLASSIC will not be held in 2020.
For those staff new to CHS, and to give a little history, the ORION CLASSIC is a two-day event, typically held the first weekend of August. (This year would have been our 25th!) It features 8-10 professional golfers from the PGA Champions Tour. Sunday night’s “Evening for the Kids” is a banquet, silent and live auction, car raffle, and program that highlights the CHS mission. Monday is a Pro Am golf tournament with sponsor foursomes golfing and interacting with the pro golfers. Many CHS staff have volunteered for this event for many years. (Keep your polo shirts handy for next year!)
…and an Announcement!
The funds generated from this event make it our most successful annual fundraiser. Last year, we netted more than $500,000. To make up for the income shortfall from not having the Orion Classic, the Foundation team has created a virtual event campaign called Caring for the Kids.
This virtual event—Caring for the Kids—will feature an online silent auction, sponsor-a-wish, and an opportunity to give online. This will begin on July 25 and go through August 2.
And for the first time EVER…Children’s Home is going to have a televised event on KELO TV the evening of Monday, August 10, from 5:30-6:00 (MDT) / 6:30-7:00 PM (CDT). This 30-minute program will be broadcast all across the state and region.
Michelle Lavallee will serve as the host of this show that will also feature other CHS staff bringing the CHS story to viewers, and presenting opportunities to give. The show will conclude with the announcement of who won the new Subaru from our sold-out car raffle earlier this summer. (Many of our staff bought tickets—Thank you, and good luck!)
This is a total departure from anything that has ever been done before by CHS. KUDOS to the Foundation team for all the hard work and creativity that has gone into this effort. They have certainly made lemonade out of lemons!
