Fairy tales remind us that help often arrives right when we need it most. Much like Cinderella, we have access to our very own Fairy Godmother! The South Dakota Community Foundation distributes gifts year-round through the Fairy Godmother’s Fund to support people in crisis when the unexpected happens.

These one-time grants range from $100 to $599 and cover expenses related to sudden illness, job loss, or unsafe living situations. The funds can be used for daycare, medical needs, housing, or vehicle repairs.

After a request is submitted, an advisory council from across the state reviews it and directs funds straight to the client’s needs.

“Life happens—unforeseen situations occur. These grants come at a time when people are in a crisis and don’t have many options,” said Grant Specialist Angie Smith. “These grants show people that they don’t have to go through the hard times alone.”
