Melanie Coleman
Therapist, Rapid City

Certified Social Worker (CSW), Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and currently working toward CSW-PIP

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Melanie earned a BSW at New Mexico State University and her MSW at Western New Mexico University.

Melanie has a strong interest in supporting young clients with anxiety, depression, anger, PTSD and grief. Her professional background includes experience in hospital social work and elementary school social work before joining Children’s Home Society. She is a nationally recognized NTI Adoption-Competent Therapist. She specializes in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and play therapy for young children. She also offers animal-assisted therapy with the help of her therapy dog, Tamari, a black lab.

Outside of work, Melanie is an outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys hiking, camping, horseback riding, and exploring national parks—she has visited 18 so far!

Monica earned her degree in English from Chadron State College and her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked at Black Hills Children’s Home, where she found passion in helping others work through trauma, stress and life changes.

Today, Monica has more than 10 years of experience working with at-risk youth, adults and families at various organizations in the Black Hills area. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is an NTI Adoption Competent Therapist. These experiences have taught her that the family and individual are the experts.

In her free time, Monica enjoys going on adventures in the Black Hills.

Nichole Knepp
Therapist, Assistant Program Director, Rapid City

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Social Worker (SW) and working toward LPC-MH.

Originally from western Nebraska, Nichole earned a BS in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and later received her MSEd in Community Counseling. She worked in a community-based agency before joining Children’s Home Society, where she has 22 years of experience working with children and families in residential treatment and outpatient services.

Nichole specializes in Therapeutic Foster Care, Adoption Services, Theraplay and EMDR. She is a nationally recognized NTI Adoption Competent Therapist and a TCOM (Transformational Collaboration of Outcomes Management) Trainer. In her role, she provides leadership, support and supervision to CHS Therapists.

Nichole enjoys traveling with her family, camping, boating and being outdoors.

Amy Marker

Born and raised in Rapid City, SD, Amy received a degree in Psychology from Black Hills State University and her MSW from Walden University.

Amy has worked with youth and adolescents since 2016 in residential settings, child protection services, case management and therapeutic services. She specializes in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). Amy helps adolescents and their families address suicidality and self-harm, traumatic history, sexual abuse, body and self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety and navigating healthy interpersonal relationships. She believes that supporting clients involves supporting families, which is something she works toward with all clients,

Amy enjoys spending time with her family, and reading, thrifting and watching horror movies.

Michelle Soberalski

Michelle grew up in a military family and lived in many places. She received her degree in Human Services and Sociology from Black Hills State University and her MSW from the University of South Dakota.

She has more than 10 years of experience working in mental health, particularly working for non-profit agencies. Her passion is helping clients who are looking to find freedom from the confines of severe mental illness, anxiety, major depression, PTSD post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideation, eating disorders and dysfunctional relationships. She is also certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Trauma-Informed Therapies.

Michelle enjoys running and hopes to complete her ninth half-marathon in 2025.

Brian Wilson, DO
Psychiatrist, Rapid City

Board-certified in Psychiatry and board-certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Born and raised in eastern South Dakota, Dr. Wilson graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a degree in Psychology. Dr. Wilson earned a degree in Biomedical Science and a master's degree in Behavioral Medicine at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN, where he met his wife, Petra.

Dr. Wilson graduated from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical School. He completed the University of South Dakota Psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship programs and another fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry.

He practiced in Yankton, SD, for three years and in Hot Springs, SD, for nine years. He established an outpatient Psychiatry program, covered multiple geriatric facilities and worked in an administrative role. He began working with Children's Home Society (CHS) in 2017 and joined CHS full time in July 2024.

Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending concerts and the theater, hot air ballooning, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and other outdoor activities.
