Rapid City, South Dakota–Children’s Home Society (CHS) is proud to announce that Heather Hoeye is the new Director of Development for the Children’s Home Foundation in Rapid City.

Hoeye brings firsthand experience with CHS’s mission, having served as a K-1 teacher at Owen School on CHS’s Rockerville campus, where she worked directly with students with significant behavioral needs and their families.

“My time as a teacher shaped my passion for sharing the real stories of resilience, healing and hope that define CHS,” said Hoeye. “I am deeply committed to advocating for the well-being of children, especially those with autism and unique behavioral needs.”

Kara Flynn, Vice President of Development, believes that Hoeye’s experience with the families will strengthen donor relationships and inspire support.

“Heather’s passion for our mission, paired with her deep understanding of our work, will truly inspire donors,” said Flynn. “We’re excited to welcome her to the Foundation team.”

Before joining CHS in 2024, Hoeye helped establish the first Project SEARCH site in West River—a one-year transition program that trains and educates young professionals with disabilities. This program was developed in partnership with Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, Monument Health, and South Dakota Vocational Rehabilitation, fostering strong collaborative relationships with these agencies and connecting with CHS along the way.

Hoeye serves on the board of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), actively participates in Early Learners Rapid City and is dedicated to building a more inclusive and compassionate Black Hills community. Outside of work, you’re likely to find her hiking the Black Hills with her two dogs, hunting for dinosaur fossils, or connecting with others to build a stronger, more compassionate community for South Dakota’s children.
