Trunk or Treat brings community members together for one last celebration before the move to Rapid City.

The Black Hills Children's Home celebrated Halloween with a special Trunk or Treat event at its Rockerville campus, bringing together community members, volunteers and staff to create a memorable experience for the children in its care.

The event marked the final celebration held at the Rockerville campus before children and staff relocated to the new Black Hills Children's Home facility in Rapid City on November 4, 2026.

Community members showed up with creatively decorated vehicles, costumes and plenty of Halloween treats. From superheroes and favorite movie characters to spooky displays and imaginative themes, participants transformed their trunks into festive stops where children could enjoy the fun and traditions of Halloween.

For children receiving residential care, opportunities to participate in familiar childhood traditions are especially meaningful. Events like Trunk or Treat provide opportunities for fun, connection and positive experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

The celebration also marked a significant moment in the history of Black Hills Children's Home. After generations of serving children at the Rockerville campus, the organization is beginning a new chapter at its recently completed facility in Rapid City.

Children's Home Society of South Dakota extends its appreciation to everyone who volunteered their time, decorated a trunk or helped make this final Halloween celebration at Rockerville possible.

As Black Hills Children's Home transitions to its new location, the organization's commitment to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children remains unchanged.
