Safety Awareness Month

June is National Safety Month, with our focus on preventable injuries and measures individuals and organizations can implement for safer environments. The series begins with learning about the use of boundaries to minimize dangers to children and teens in our communities, as well as ourselves. The Enough Abuse Campaign offers educational information to parents, youth, professionals and other concerned adults to prevent people from victimizing children today and to prevent children from developing abusive behaviors in the future. The final session features a guest speaker from DCI teaching about situational awareness. We then will hear firsthand from an agent in the field about communication with law enforcement. Participants will:

• Explore healthy boundaries

• Assess our own boundary setting

• Explore how lack of boundaries can create vulnerability

• Recognize signs and conditions that support child sexual abuse

• Recognize potential grooming behaviors in adults

• Learn strategies for preventing child sexual abuse

• Learn how to respond to disclosures and report child sexual abuse

• Situational awareness

• How to effectively communicate with law enforcement
