ACES in the System

This series will examine Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their ongoing impact on individuals that find themselves entering, within and exiting the criminal justice system.

The first session will examine the Pennington County Sheriff’s IGNITE (Individual Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education) initiative, which is currently offered to incarcerated individuals at the Pennington County Jail. IGNITE participants work to improve their knowledge through education for personal growth and success. Participants are provided opportunities to learn self-awareness, community connectivity, and skills. The second session will explore the effects of ACEs on the justice-impacted community. It will focus on building resilience for impacted individuals and how to foster hope through awareness and action. The third session will embrace all the information from the first two sessions and explore protective factors within the workplace that may mitigate the transmission of ACEs as justice-impacted individuals re-enter the workforce. This session will define trauma and identify the impact of ACEs in the workforce.
