Year-End Wellness

The holiday season and year end can bring up various feelings. Wrap up 2023 by focusing on your individual wellness.

In our first session, we will view and discuss the documentary Resilience, which shows how toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, incarceration and early death. The film also chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to fight back. (Please note that the time allotted for Resilience and discussion is a little over an hour.)

In the second session, we will learn about suicide, relevant risk and protective factors, and mental health support and resources. We will hear from Corey Kennedy of Lost&Found, a nonprofit that delivers comprehensive, data-driven and resilience-focused suicide prevention and postvention programs and services for youth (ages 10-34) and their support networks.

In the third session, we will prepare for common holiday stressors. Prioritizing self-care can help bring gratitude both at work and at home. You’ll learn to create a self-care plan and discuss strategies on using self-care strategies daily and throughout the new year.

Objectives:

  • Watch the Resilience film and engage in a group discussion
  • Learn the importance of talking through difficult things as a form of suicide prevention
  • Learn what self-care is and is not
  • Explore the various domains of self-care
  • Discuss the components of a self-care safety plan and practical application strategies
