October Learning Series: Understanding Bullying and Violence

October is Bullying Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. These issues are rooted in the use of force or threats to control others.

Parents, school staff, and other adults in the community can help prevent bullying by talking about it, building a safe school environment and creating a community-wide bullying prevention strategy. Join us this month as we focus on understanding risk and protective factors, the effects of bullying and interpersonal violence, and how you can contribute to prevention. This series will help you:

• Define bullying and domestic violence
• Explore the dynamics of power and control
• Understand risk and protective factors through a socio-ecological lens
• Discuss the importance of setting boundaries
• Recognize and respond to bullying and unhealthy relationship dynamics
